The technology roadmap starts at a macro level by defining long term market trends, such as increasing payer pressure and the arrival of new product classes. When translated to business drivers, 10x step improvements in cost, flexibility, speed and quality are targeted within a 10-year horizon.
In response, multiple facility types (biomanufacturing scenarios) are anticipated in the future, which range from large scale stainless steel fed batch facilities, to intermediate scale single-use modular facilities, to very small scale widely distributed portable units for personalized medicine.
For progress to be made by the industry, enabling technologies and capabilities need to be developed, for which the six technology roadmaps in the first edition have been written to provide an industry guide-rail for innovation.

MODELING BIOMANUFACTURING SCENARIOS
An assessment of the business impact of different technology options upon the various biomanufacturing scenarios has made possible through modeling and the results are available in the appendix of this Overview section.
Biopharm Services have created a Manufacturing Technology Roadmap Tool that models the biopharmaceutical manufacturing scenarios, enabling our teams to estimate the value of a new technology, a process that would otherwise be difficult to predict. Biopharm Services have kindly made the tool available Click here to access this tool.
