Join 65 members, including most of the top 29 pharmaceutical companies, to bring about change within the inbound supply chain. Our members benefit from being at the forefront of digital innovation through sharing knowledge and acting as one voice for the industry.

Our members are building on lessons learned over the last few years as several global events impacted the inbound supply chain. Notably, the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s war in Ukraine are creating long-term effects, including a change in behaviors along the supply chain.

Members report demand for raw materials is growing in several dimensions. There has been a more than doubling of global bioreactor capacity over the past five years, the productivity has tripled and somewhere between a x5 and x10 demand pull on raw materials, consumables and ingredients – the industry needs to work out how to sustain this growth and manage lead times at times of stress.

Resilience and recovery

Geo-political changes will continue to disrupt the supply of raw materials. So, our members are working to develop solutions to these challenges.

Outcomes include:

  • Increasing forecast and demand planning best practices
  • Risk and business continuity management
  • Knowledge and mapping of the supply chain to promote efficiencies in processes like auditing and supply change notifications.

Membership in BioPhorum Supply Resilience gives your organization a place at these discussions and early access to make the changes within your own inbound supply chain.

Focus on solutions

Through our publications, we bring about positive change in the supply chain. By partnering with other Phorums we pool expertise and knowledge, unlike any other organization.

For example, our collaboration with BioPhorum Drug Substance delivered “ Supply Change Notification Guidance “. This can be used in the industry alongside an electronic template. This template supports the need for increased speed in processing second source supply change notifications.

More and more we are working to take the lead in managing the changes needed to operate and improve operations for the inbound supply chain, for example, our members are actively working to promote X-ray technology as an acceptable sterilization process. The FDA now recognizes this as a complementary technology for sterilization. This offers another channel for sterilizing the industry’s single-use system components.

Strategic framework

By creating a strategic framework, our members have identified five objectives that tackle challenges within the industry.

There is a maturity/capability assessment tool for each of these objectives so that members have tangible data to measure their performance. This ensures they see value from operational excellence that ultimately benefits the patients.

The strategic goals are:

  • To lead by industry insights on emerging patterns and trends
  • Provide a safe and adaptable supply chain which works in harmony with biomanufacturing
  • Create a fully digitized supply chain that supports commerce, quality and data sharing
  • Develop strong, open relationships across the supply chain for better quality and less risk
  • Build a sustainable supply chain that does no harm to the planet, person or product.
The unique insight that being a member of BioPhorum gives us is a perspective that helps us to be better prepared for our customers.
